India A drew the second unofficial Test with South Africa A at the Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadiyar Ground in Mysore on Friday (September 20) to clinch the two-match series 1-0.
The hosts began the final day at 14 for no loss and were off to a solid start as openers Priyank Panchal and Abhimanyu Easwaran ensured a wicketless morning session.
Dane Piedt then removed Easwaran and Shubman Gill – the latest Test attraction – in the space of four balls, but Panchal carried on to score a hundred – his first 14 innings. Karun Nair gave him good company and raised his second fifty of the game before the players shook hands for a draw as there was no time left to force a result.
This meant South Africa A ended their tour with a solitary win, having also lost the ODI series 1-4.
Earlier, India A took a slender 17-run lead despite hundreds from captain Aiden Markram and Wiaan Mulder. Kuldeep Yadav and Shabaz Nadeem impressed with seven wickets between them. The game gave some vital match practice also to the likes of Vernon Philander, Lungi Ngidi, Senuran Muthusamy, Dane Piedt, who are all part of the Test squad to take on India from October 2.
Brief scores: India A 417 and 202 for 3 (Priyank Panchal 109, Karun Nair 51*; Dane Piedt 2-88)drew with South Africa A 417 (Aiden Markram 161, Wiaan Mulder 131; Kuldeep Yadav 4-121).
