Comilla Victorians suffered a huge blow with Steve Smith leaving for Australia on Thursday (January 10) for an MRI check after an injury to his elbow. Cricbuzz understands that the Victorians captain is suffering from golfer’s elbow and is likely to join the squad if there isn’t any significant damage.

The condition is created when the elbow is put under a lot of stress, leaving the area feeling stiff while the hands and wrists feel weak. “We are hoping that he will join us if nothing serious is found in the MRI,” coach Mohammad Salahuddin told Cricbuzz.

Since his arrival in the Bangladesh Premier League, Smith has refrained from throwing balls during net sessions and of late has restricted his participation as well. It is likely the Australia batsman will miss at least two games going ahead in the tournament.

In the two games so far, Smith has scored 16 and 0 while he also bowled an over against Rangpur Riders. Victorians have lost one and won one game so far and are in the fifth position. They next take on Rajshahi Kings on January 11.
