Sylhet Sixers vs Chittagong Vikings, Dhaka

In what turned out to be a game full of twists and turns, Sylhet Sixers held their nerve to overcome Chittagong Vikings by five runs in the Bangladesh Premier League on Wednesday (January 8). Sixers ended with 163 in pursuit of 169.

While chasing down a competitive target, Vikings found themselves in trouble at 131 for 7 after 18 overs. However, at that stage of the game, Robbie Frylinck, batting at No.7, changed gears to give Sixers a scare. He smashed Mohammad Irfan for a couple of sixes to bring the equation down to 24 off the final over.

In the final over bowled by Al-Amin Hossain, he cleared the stands a couple more times. Eventually, Vikings needed six to tie the game and take it to the SuperOver. However, the veteran all rounder could eke out just a single off the final ball as Vikings slid to a loss. Taskin Ahmed was the star performer for Sixers, snaring four wickets for 28 runs.

Earlier, David Warner (59), Atif Hossain (45) and Nicholas Pooran (52*) all chipped in with vital hands for Sixers. Frylinck, meanwhile, also showed his class and quality with the ball in hand by snaring three wickets.

Brief scores: Sylhet Sixers 168/5 in 20 overs (David Warner 59, Nicholas Pooran 52*; Robbie Frylinck 3-26) beat Chittagong Vikings 163/7 in 20 overs (Robbie Frylinck 44*; Taskin Ahmed 4-28) by five runs.

Khulna Titans vs Rajshahi Kings, Dhaka

Mominul Haque (44) and Mehidy Hasan (51) played crucial hands while Isuru Udana took three scalps to ensure Rajshahi Kings’ comfortable seven-wicket victory over Khulna Titans.

After restricting Titans to just 117 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs, Kings found themselves in pole position. The duo of Mominul and Mehidy took advantage of the good work done by the bowlers with a second-wicket stand of 89. Paul Stirling and Zahir dismissed Mominul and Mehidy respectively, but by then, the result of the match was more or less a foregone conclusion. Soumya Sarkar and Laurie Evans then guided the side home with seven balls to spare.

For Titans, only Junaid Siddique (23) and Dawid Malan (23) crossed the 20-run mark as they struggled to string together stands of substance. Udana was the pick of the bowlers, returning impressive figures of 3 for 15. Mustafizur Rahman chipped in with two wickets.

Brief scores: Khulna Titans 117/9 in 20 overs (Junaid Siddique 23; Isuru Udana 3-15) lost to Rajshahi Kings 118/3 in 18.5 overs (Mehidy Hasan 51, Mominul Haque 44; Paul Stirling 1-9) by seven wickets.
