Match 30 of the Momentum Cup – between Lions and Dolphins – ended in a no-result with rain stopping play in the 10th over of the chase. With the fourth rained off contest of the campaign, Lions’ hopes of qualifying for the semifinals also ended. Ryan Rickelton’s 119-ball 126 powered Lions to 330 for 6 after they were put in to bat. He was ably supported by Kagiso Rapulana (69) and Temba Bavuma (64), before Wiaan Mulder provided the late flourish with a 26-ball 41. Okuhle Cele returned four wickets but ended up conceding 79 from his nine overs. In reply, Dolphins lost opener Vaughn van Jaarsveld early in the chase before rain ended play.
Brief Scores: Lions 330/6 in 50 overs (Ryan Rickelton 126, Kagiso Rapulana 69; Okuhle Cele 4-79) vs Dolphins 39/1 in 9.2 overs. No Result
Matthew Breetzke’s 129-ball 131 helped Warriors cruise to a comfortable nine-wicket win and set a semifinal date with Dolphins. Led by half-centuries from Janneman Malan (88) and Kyle Verreynne (62), Cape Cobras posted 269 for 5. However, a target didn’t prove too daunting for the hosts as they chased it down in 44 overs. Skipper JJ Smuts also stroked an impressive 93-ball 92, stitching an unbeaten 207-run alliance with Breetzke. Despite the defeat, Cobras managed to qualify for the semifinal and will take on table-toppers Titans in the knockout clash.
Brief Scores: Cape Cobras 269/5 in 20 overs (Janneman Malan 88, Kyle Verreynne 62; Basheeru-Deen Walters 2-50, Jade de Klerk 1-49) lost to Warriors 270/1 in 44 overs (Matthew Breetzke 131*, JJ Smuts 92*; Dane Piedt 1-47) by 9 wickets
Theunis de Bruyn’s 183 against Knights went in vain as Knights won the rain-marred encounter by 5 wickets. However, despite the result, Titans finished at the top of the points table and Knights failed to make it to the semifinals. Even as there were no big contribution by the other batters, Titans managed to post 323 for 7 on the board. Due to rain, the target was revised to 285 in 40 overs, which Knights managed to overhaul, courtesy quickfire half-centuries from Raynard van Tonder (60), Andries Gous (60), Rudi Second (55) and Ryan McLaren (55), with an over to spare.
Brief Scores: Titans 323/7 in 50 overs (Theunis de Bruyn 183, Tony de Zorzi 40; Tshepo Ntuli 2-62, Shadley van Schalkwyk 2-71) lost to Knights 285/5 in 39 overs (Raynard van Tonder 60, Andries Gous 60; Corbin Bosch 3-66, Tshepo Moreki 1-65) by 5 wickets (DLS Method)
