Mike Hesson, the head coach of Kings XI Punjab, confirmed on Twitter that he has parted ways with the Indian Premier League franchise.
Hesson took over from Brad Hodge last year in October after Kings XI choked in the second half of the 2018 IPL season and failed to enter the playoffs. Even though he had signed a two-year contract, Hesson will leave the role midway with Kings XI, who finished sixth in the 2019 edition of the IPL.
While he didn’t state the reason behind his departure, it is understood that there has been interest from national teams for coaching positions considering Hesson’s impressive track record with New Zealand previously. India, Pakistan, England, Bangladesh and South Africa are among the teams in search for a new head coach.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Kings XI franchise and wish to thank them for the season I had in charge,” Hesson tweeted on Wednesday (August 8). “Whilst disappointed not to be able to build on the work we did this year, I’m sure success isn’t too far away for them. I wish them all the best for the future.”
