In what was an absorbing day of Test cricket, the fortunes fluctuated at St. Lucia with both Windies and England having their moments on the opening day. It was even-stevens in the first session but the Windies pacers once again were breathing fire finding plenty of assistance from the surface and fetching three wickets as a reward in the second, with England wresting control in the final session on the back of an excellent century partnership. Keaton Jennings was handed another opportunity to make amends but his obvious technical flaws had him dismissed thrice actually.
Rory Burns fought valiantly but couldn’t make enough runs and Joe Root and Joe Denly failed to contribute as well. That’s when Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes joined forces to rescue their side out of trouble. Stokes was the aggressor initially as he hit a flurry of boundaries to shift the pressure back on the Windies and soon after, Buttler joined the party. The duo mixed caution with aggression and reached their respective fifties enroute to raising a century stand.
Windies fell seven overs short as a result of a rain break in the opening session. Hopefully, the weather stays clear throughout the day so that we can witness some great action once again. Can the Windies find the early breakthrough that might help them restrict England to a score less than 300? Or will the visitors continue from where they left at stumps last night? The new ball is the key. Welcome to the live blog for the second day’s play of the third and final Test.
