Ravindra Jadeja and local boy Wriddhiman Saha will have their task cut out when New Zealand attack with the second new ball. Matt Henry and Trent Boult are expected to fire on all cylinders to restrict India (239/7 off 86 overs at stumps on Day 1) to below 250 and then try and apply themselves on the newly-laid Eden Gardens strip.

India have adequate bowling arsenal to challenge the Kiwis, who are without batting mainstay and captain Kane Williamson. But stand-in captain Ross Taylor, who marshalled his bowlers exceedingly well on a hot and humid day, will hope to score runs in a big game for him and his team.

New Zealand’s batting will face a solid test for sure. Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (he replaced the quicker Umesh Yadav) are great movers of the ball and left-arm spinner Jeetan Patel’s two wickets will give a lot of hope to Jadeja and his off-spinning partner Ravichandran Ashwin.
