I-T searches room of Jaya's PA in Poes Garden

CHENNAI: Income tax investigation wing officials started searches in a room on the compound of late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence in Chennai on Friday night. The room was used by Jayalalithaa’s personal assistant S Poongundran when she was alive.

Three senior I-T officials entered the room and began searches. Sources told TOI that the officials had not entered the residence of the late chief minister. “The current search is only restricted to the room of Poongundran as we are in search of some documents. We have received permission from the concerned authorities to enter the compound,” a senior I-T official said.

Income tax officials conducted searches on several premises belonging to jailed AIADMK leader V K Sasikala and her relatives for five days since November 9. They had then searched Poongundran’s residence at Adyar here.

They had also searched an office of Jaya TV office adjacent to Jayalalithaa’s residence, apart from the channel’s main office at Ekkaduthangal.
