India internationals KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have been handed suspensions by the BCCI pending an inquiry following their controversial comments made recently in a talk-show, reports PTI. The two players, who are a part of the ODI squad in Australia, will miss the opening game on Saturday at the SCG.
Both Rahul and Hardik appeared on the show ‘Koffee with Karan’ where the allrounder in particular made statements that caused outrage on social platforms for being misogynist in nature. Even though Hardik issued an apology after receiving criticism, the board had issued show cause notices to both cricketers demanding an explanation.
It was also learnt that the team management had stern words with the duo regarding the controversy with skipper Virat Kohli also making it clear that the side won’t be supporting the ‘inappropriate comments’ made by the two cricketers.
